Leona Lewis, who won talent TV show The X Factor in 2006 and topped charts around the world with debut album "Spirit," has signed a deal to pen her autobiography with publishing house Hodder & Stoughton.

The book, which will include more than 100 new photographs, will hit the shelves in October, shortly before the scheduled release of Lewis' second album, the publisher said on Monday.

"The last two years have been an unbelievable experience for me," said the 23-year-old Londoner, who debuted at No.1 in the key U.S. album chart last year, the first British woman to achieve the feat.

Spirit has sold an estimated five million copies around the world since its release in 2007.

Hodder & Stoughton, which did not disclose the financial details of the deal, said photographs for the autobiography would be taken by Dean Freeman, who also worked on the publisher's collaboration with soccer star David Beckham.

"This will be the first time Leona tells her story of how the X-Factor launched her from waitressing in Pizza Hut in Hackney to stardom on both sides of the Atlantic," said Hodder editor Fenella Bates.

"It is a real-life fairytale and every girl's dream."

Leona Lewis is just one of the names being targeted to play the role of Mariah Carey in a new Broadway musical, say insiders.


Reports claim Carey is discussing the possible production with husband Nick Cannon and the musical will be based upon the singer's life. If all goes to plan, it should hit the stage in 2009.


"Mariah's not sure if she'll star in it herself," a source tells the Mirror. "If she doesn't, names being tossed around include High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens and Desperate Housewife Eva Longoria."


"But Mariah secretly likes the idea of Leona Lewis playing her. Not only is she exotic, she's the only one who they reckon would be able to tackle Mariah's eight-octave vocal range."

Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford will make a cameo in the Leona's new video "I Will Be". A source tells People how they met: “Chace went to London a couple months ago for meetings and to promote Gossip Girl. He went to a party and ended up meeting Leona. [The two] hit it off and talk every once in a while and have become fast friends… A couple weeks ago Leona called Chace and asked if he would be in her next video. He obviously said yes.”

“I Will Be” is a pop rock ballad produced by industry heavyweight Dr. Luke and co-written by Avril Lavigne and Max Martin.

But what excites us the most, is Leona’s non-stop caring for animals, and how she doesn’t let her skyrocketing music career get in the way of her ethics.


Thanks to her vegetarian lifestyle and commitment to vegan fashion (Leona is in the process of setting up a fashion line using no skins whatsoever, dontcha know), this compassionate Brit earned herself the crown of Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity in our poll earlier this year, along with Red Hot Chilli Peppers legend, Anthony Kiedis. So far, so good. But then she goes and places a big, fat, juicy cherry on the top by publicly shunning a £1million deal with ‘luxury’ department store, Harrods, because they continue to sell fur.
